With the growing concern over the spread of aquatic invasive species to Wisconsin’s inland lakes, many lake association members and other concerned citizens are looking for ways to get involved.  The Clean Boats, Clean Waters volunteer watercraft inspection program is an opportunity to take a front line defense against the spread of aquatic invasive species.

Wisconsin’s aquatic invasive species program focuses on preventing the introduction of new invasive species to Wisconsin, preventing the spread of invasives that are already in the state, and controlling established populations when possible.

Environmental Communication and Social Marketing
The Environmental Communication and Social Marketing newsletter provides a forum for communication between professionals in the social and natural sciences who share a common interest in promoting behaviors that will positively impact the environment. The newsletter is multidisciplinary in nature, emphasizing theoretically-informed, evidence-based approaches to behavioral change. This newsletter is created by faculty from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension.

Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers
Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers is a national campaign to persuade recreational water users to take steps to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. The campaign has a widely recognized brand including logo and tagline. Wisconsin is a partner in the Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers campaign and promotes their brand through state and local outreach materials. Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers is part of the ANS Task Force public awareness campaign and is sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Banana Slug String Band – Science, Song and Celebration
The Banana Slug String Band’s new CD release, “We all live downstream” promotes watershed awareness.  Songs like Storm Drain Blues educate children on the importance of controlling non-point pollution, while in One Little River, children are introduced to what a watershed is.  “Let Wetlands Stand” promotes the value of marshes while “Listen” tells how to determine stream health by looking at macro-invertebrates.
